Milonga El Abrazo de Gainesville cancelled for Sept 9, 2017

Sorry! We have to cancel the milonga this month (Saturday Sept 9, 2017) because of Hurricane Irma. (The City just called to inform me that all City facilities will be closed Friday night.) We’ll see everybody next month October 14 when we will have special guest artist “Maestro Tango” Alejandro Pinzon and his bandoneon for musicality workshops and live music and Dj’ing. Don’t miss it!

Thank you to every one who supported us last month at our ***NEW*** venue at the beautifully newly renovated Rosa B Williams Center 352Artspace. We are an affiliated group with the City of Gainesville Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural affairs. Support provided by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department – a CAPRA accredited agency.
We have a great new wood floor, good lighting, security and free parking on the street. We also have parking passes for the lot across the street. And there are other lots being arranged for in the near future.
This event will be 3 hours long, but it may be possible to go longer into the evening in the future after we have some track record with the City.
Regular Programming this month:
8:00 to 8:30 Beginners Milonga (Experienced dancers welcome! 30 minute beginners lesson + 15 minutes dancing rotating partners after every song where we want to be sure to get all the beginners out on the floor with experienced dancers.)
8:45 to 11:00 Standard Tandas (Beginners encouraged to stay and dance and socialize and be exposed to the different orchestras and styles of Tango, Vals and Milonga music!)
What is a Beginners Milonga?
A 30 minute lesson followed by dancing for new tango dancers.
In its simplest form, Argentine Tango is just a hug and a walk to the music. Later you can add some other fancy stuff.
This is an opportunity to enjoy a real Argentine Tango Milonga (dance social). Put what you are learning to use in a welcoming atmosphere arranged to make new tango dancers feel comfortable.
Beginners are encouraged to stay after the Beginner’s Milonga to dance, hang out, watch and listen to music and meet new friends.
Experienced dancers are welcome at the Beginner’s Milonga.
The rules are:
Do not tell your partner what to do during the Beginner’s Milonga.
If you have trouble, ask the instructor for help, otherwise figure it out yourself.
Only ask your partner to do something if you are uncomfortable, not if you or they are confused.
